Celebration of thirtieth anniversary of Presentation Sisters’ Care Centre in Matlock, Derbyshire

By Sr Christina Dolan

Close to the turn of the Third Millenium another Presentation Project was born and at the end of its third decade the anniversary was celebrated in true Matlock style.  As ever, the Activities Team, led by Clare, had laid out the Hall in colourful style and early morning saw them hard at work putting the final touches, laying out the tables laden with a fabulous buffet.  By mid morning the lift was busy ferrying residents to the Hall for a memorable celebration.  Musical entertainment and a big Draw added to the fun.

Do we wonder what Presentation Sisters’ Care Centre is about and its origins ?

Sister Eileen, Provincial of the English Province, gave us a brief account.  She explained that the charism and raison-d’etre of the Congregation, founded by Nano Nagle almost three centuries ago, continues to be the driving force of any project undertaken by her Sisters.  In the case of this PSCC which we celebrate, the care of our Missionary Sisters returning from India, Africa and beyond, as well as the elderly of our English Province, had to be addressed.  With the closing of the boarding school a fitting use for the building fell into place.  And Nano’s charism of love and dedicated service  to the people who enjoy quality care in this particular Presentation Project lives on.                                                                 Profound and lasting thanks to its fine Management and Staff !
